Officials Are Using the Word “Disaster” to Describe the Widespread Crop Failures Happening all over America

There was sadness and dismay in eastern Idaho’s potato community this weekend as the 2019 harvest wound down and growers began tallying up their losses from October’s disastrous freeze while pondering what to do with the tons of unusable tubers it left behind. This season’s harvest will be marked by tons of decaying potatoes for which there is no home.

Due to the Weather, Midwest Farmers Fear Widespread Crop Failures and a “Record-Low” Harvest in 2019

The Journal writers explained that, “The cold weather is a big threat to vulnerable crops. Only 22% of corn in North Dakota was mature as of Oct. 7, and 36% in South Dakota. In the 18 biggest corn-producing states, 58% of this year’s crop was mature, versus an average of 85% by that date over the previous five years, according to the USDA.

Major Fire Engulfs Jeddah Haramain Station

The station - designed by Norman + Partners - was part of the Haramain high-speed railway, which was opened by King Salman in September 2019. Back in 2012, it was reported that the budget for the Jeddah Haramain Station was $773m, although it is clear from later reporting that the Haramain railway project as a whole had run significantly overbudget.
