Although former Vice President Joe Biden is both praised and despised for being the “moderate” Democratic presidential candidate, this is far from the truth.
Biden may have been a moderate earlier in his career—when he and several other Democrats voted in favor of the Defense of Marriage Act, for example.
Whether he’s hurling expletives at construction workers and telling them he’ll take their “assault weapons” or plotting to eviscerate religious liberty with the so-called “Equality Act”, the current frontrunner has repeatedly demonstrated that he is far from the center.
Biden’s single most extremist stance, however, happens to be his most deadly as well: the belief that abortion is a constitutional right.
Nestled in among his massive plan to ensure that healthcare is “a right for all, not a privilege for just a few,” Biden lays out his approach to abortion as healthcare.
“Joe Biden believes that every American – regardless of gender, race, income, sexual orientation, or zip code – should have access to affordable and quality health care,” the plan reads. “Yet racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and other forms of discrimination permeate our health care system just as in every other part of society.”
To combat this alleged injustice, Biden plans to be “a champion for improving access to health care and the health of all” by:
- expanding access to contraception and protecting the “constitutional right to an abortion,”
- working to codify Roe v. Wade and “stop the rash of state laws that so blatantly violate the constitutional right to an abortion, such as so-called TRAP laws, parental notification requirements, mandatory waiting periods, and ultrasound requirements,”
- restoring federal funding to Planned Parenthood,
- and rescinding the Mexico City Policy which prohibits recipients of foreign aid from promoting or providing abortions.
Pointing to the hideous misapplication of the Fourth Amendment in the Roe v. Wade decision rendering abortion a constitutional right, the Biden campaign declares:
The Affordable Care Act made historic progress by ensuring access to free preventive care, including contraception. The Biden Plan will build on that progress. Vice President Biden supports repealing the Hyde Amendment because health care is a right that should not be dependent on one’s zip code or income. And, the public option will cover contraception and a woman’s constitutional right to choose.
NARAL spokesperson Amanda Thayer praised Biden, according to Newsweek, saying that the pro-abortion organization is “pleased that all the major candidates have coalesced around support for reproductive freedom.”
Thayer added that the fact that both Biden and Sen. Bernie Sanders stand strongly in favor of declaring open season on unborn children has “shown they understand it is a winning issue for Democrats, and demonstrated that support for abortion rights and safeguarding Roe v. Wade is the floor, not the ceiling.”
Last week, Biden event went so far as to propose abortion as a solution to the mythical problem of overpopulation.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that a Biden presidency would be better than a Sanders presidency, saints. This man is no moderate. He will see to it that unborn children—to say nothing of conscientious Christians in the public square—have no protection under the law whatsoever.
We cannot tolerate that.
