People across Jamaica spent a weekend in prayer and fasting as the country attempts to combat the spread of the coronavirus.
The weekend was organised by the Jamaica Umbrella Group of Churches, which includes a number of different evangelical denominations.
Their call was backed by Governor General Sir Patrick Allen.
Prayer for the Government
Sir Patrick called on Jamaicans to pray for those trying to create a vaccine, for medical professionals; the poor, needy, elderly and vulnerable in society and for healing for those suffering from the virus.
He also asked for prayer for the Government, churches, and for non-governmental organisations combatting the spread of the virus.
Bishop Conrad Pitkin of the Assemblies of God commended the Jamaican Government for its efforts.
He said: “Our prayers and support stand with our Government and all of those in leadership as we face and go through this period together, in the name of our Lord who we trust. We shall and we will overcome”.
