Just when it seemed as though the transgender movement was reaching a fever-pitch and it was becoming impossible to stand up to the zealous mob of trans-enthusiasts, it appears some celebrities may have found the secret to shutting them down and evading the dreaded “cancel culture” imposed on anyone who dares speak truth or reason. Perhaps this culture battle is not all but lost after all.
Back in December, famed author J.K. Rowling tweeted her support for Maya Forstater, a former tax expert who lost her job at think tank Center for Global Development for declaring that men and women do not just get to be the opposite sex simply because they say so.
As we reported, Forstater’s appeal to an employment tribunal was rejected by a judge who stated that her views have the potential to cause “enormous pain” to transgender persons. Her views and the view of the majority of sane, rational people, were “not worthy of respect in a democratic society,” according to this judge.
This lunacy seems to have struck a chord even within the staunchest progressives. Rowling, a well-known liberal, was sent over the edge at the ruling and took to Twitter to point out just how ridiculous the whole thing was, and effectively pointing out the insanity of the entire transgender takeover of society.
“Dress however you please,” Rowling wrote. “Call yourself whatever you like. Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you. Live your best life in peace and security. But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real? #IStandWithMaya #ThisIsNotADrill.”
Rowling, stunningly, presented a view that is now considered dangerous among those on the left. Just when women seemed to have finally reached the pinnacle of equality in society, now they are being forced to kowtow to the transgender agenda which denies truth and science and most oftentimes degrades women and encourages the usurpation of real women in favor of men who pretend to be women.
We covered the backlash Rowling was faced with for this progressive thought crime, but as we reported and Jonathan Van Maren for LifeSite, notes that “rather shockingly, Rowling decided not to play along.”
She posted the tweet and left it there. When the LGBT lobby group GLAAD contacted Rowling’s people to arrange a meeting in which they would explain to the author why she was wrong, Rowling declined the opportunity. The thought pieces bemoaning Rowling’s apparent destruction of her literary legacy are still popping up, but Rowling is ignoring everyone. As Princeton professor Robert P. George noted: “The gender gnostics invite JK Rowling to re-education camp and she says no. They realize that there’s now a lot at stake and they must bend her to their will. If she refuses to cave & survives cancellation she licenses wholesale dissent from Woke orthodoxy. This is now a Big Deal.”
Rowling stated truth and refused to back down. She effectively has denied the transgender “mob” power by simply refusing to acknowledge them. She isn’t going back and forth attempting to defend her statement and she isn’t backing down by removing her tweet and issuing a series of “woke” tweets in which she apologizes and conforms. She spoke the truth and let it be. The “mob” can’t harass her forever, after all, there will be someone new to “cancel” before too long. She’s just waiting them out and doing a marvelous job at it.
While the backlash has been intense, there have been those who have come to Rowling’s defense. Comedian Ricky Gervais took to twitter and in usual, sarcastic fashion pointed out the ridiculousness of it all.
“Those awful biological women can never understand what it must be like for you becoming a lovely lady so late in life. They take their girly privileges for granted. Winning at female sports and having their own toilets. Well, enough is enough.”
Ayaan Hirsi Ali also tweeted support for Rowling, saying, “Very brave J K Rowling for standing up for women.” How dare these celebrities defect from the transgender narrative they are beholden to as members of the limelight. The progressive trans-mob is losing its grip on society and it sure is encouraging.
Van Maren goes on to say:
Rowling has now proven that high profile figures can announce their dissent from our new sexual orthodoxies, get “cancelled,” and survive it with little effect. Cancel culture only works when everyone plays along and agrees to actually cancel the person being targeted, and trans activists are fully aware that if their attempts fail, others will take notice. They tried to get Jordan Peterson fired, and he got rich and famous. They tried to force Rowling to back down, and she ignored them. They’re complaining that Ricky Gervais is a “transphobe” and as such should not be allowed to host the Golden Globes, but no cancellation has been forthcoming.
If this keeps up, their threats may soon fall on deaf ears. And if that happens, we’ll know that 2019 was the highwater mark of their cultural power.
Let’s hope Van Maren’s observations are correct and we are, in fact, seeing the decline of the progressive left’s “cultural power.” Enough truly is enough. If celebrities have had enough and are beginning to express this surely it will give courage to everyday folks to stand up and speak the truth.
Remain prayerful that we soon see an end to the ideological tyranny of gender theory.
